(Atlantic) The Cass County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution on Friday Morning to participate in the Federal Government’s Safe Streets and Road application process. All 99 counties are eligible to apply for funding as part of the Infrastructure and Jobs Act Federal Transportation Bill.
Rich Hansen, Assistant to the County Engineer appearing in front of the Board of Supervisors, said the Federal Government pays for 80 percent of the project, and the other 20 percent comes out of the county Farm-to-market fund.
Hansen says part of the plan is to add rumble strips along some of the paved roads.
Hansen points out a few areas in Cass County that would benefit from this program.
Currently, 57 Iowa counties have safety plans in place; however, those plans do not meet government standards. Cass County does not have a safety plan in place.
