(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board discussed an employee retention stipend at their meeting Wednesday evening.
Atlantic Superintendent Steve Barber said they received confirmation from the Iowa Department of Education that providing staff with a retention stipend is an appropriate use of ESSER dollars. Barber’s proposal is that all employees, full or part time, will receive a stipend based on continuous years of service at the conclusion of the 2021-2022 school year. Payments would be made to staff still employed with the school district on September 1, 2022.
For those with one year (partial included) to four years of experience, they would receive a $1,000 stipend; five to nine years of experience – a $1,250 stipend; and 10+ years of experience – a $1,500 stipend.
Governor Reynolds has also proposed a $1,000 stipend to Iowa teachers.
No action was taken on the stipend at Wednesday’s school board meeting.
