(Greenfield) A former Orient, Iowa man is in custody in connection with a fatality accident on May 8, near Orient.
The cooperation of multiple agencies, including the U.S. Marshalls Office of the Southern District of Iowa, led to the arrest of 41-year old Elijah Daniel Davis, who allegedly committed a Homicide by Vehicle and Child Endangerment. Members of the U.S. Marshals Service Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force located Davis in Fort Myers, Florida, on June 10.
Sheriff Vandewater wishes to extend his sincere appreciation to the U.S. Marshals Service for their assistance in the investigation and arrest of Davis.
The Adair County Sheriff’s Office will now work through the extradition process and return Davis to Iowa.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at around 5:06 p.m., on May 8, on Highway 25, just west of Orient.
An eastbound 2000 Ford Astro van driven by Davis crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and struck a westbound 1946 Ford F-100 pickup driven by 39-year old Jeremy Trichel, of Menlo. Trichel was ejected from his vehicle and died from his injuries. Davis was also injured in the crash.
