(Washington D.C.) Iowa Senator Joni Ernst says the United States has a crisis at the border. The Republican Senator from Red Oak, speaking in front of the media, stated that many of her democratic colleagues acknowledge that there is a crisis during a senate arms services committee meeting on Tuesday morning.
Senator Ernst says many people think it’s only people from Latin America or Mexico coming across the border.
Ernst says the criminal activity includes Chinese money laundering and human trafficking.
According to the Associated Press, there is a surge of migrants on the Southwest border. The head of Homeland Security acknowledges the severity of the problem but insists it’s under control and says he won’t revive a Trump-era practice of immediately expelling teens and children. An official says U.S. authorities encountered nearly double the number of children traveling alone across the Mexican border in one day this week than on an average day last month. The administration is rushing to open temporary child holding facilities.
