(Guthrie Co.) The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors heard from officials from the City of Stuart regarding a road project on White Pole Road.
Forest Aldridge, Stuart City Engineer, told the board that heavy truck traffic has been causing rutting on White Pole road and they plan to redo the roadway from Adair Street to All Saint’s Drive.
Aldridge said the plan is to mill off about four inches and then put in a real stiff asphalt mix to keep it from rutting. He said the project is estimated at 1.38 million dollars.
Aldridge presented two options to the County to help out with the project. He said the City is asking that some of the tax money generated from Flint Hills, who they claim is generating all of the truck traffic, go toward the road improvements. Or, the City is asking that they use the bonding capacity of the county, which would be no charge to the county, but there would be a savings to the City.
The Board approved a motion to allow the City of Stuart to use the bonding capacity for this project pending an agreement on how they’re going to repay it. They also want this project to be bid around the time that they bid one of the County’s big projects.
