(Des Moines) Fatal crashes for January in Iowa are the lowest they’ve been in the past six years.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper and Public Information Officer Shelby McCreedy said there were 15 fatal crashes for the month. Unfortunately, 100-percent of those individuals killed were unrestrained. Trooper McCreedy says seatbelt usage is one area of focus moving forward.
Trooper McCreedy says each year, the Iowa State Patrol establishes priorities, goals, and initiatives, with the intent to reduce crash-related fatalities under 300 annually.
McCreedy says the road map to reaching this goal is addressed in several ways.
Trooper McCreedy says as of February 2, there were 17 traffic fatalities in Iowa. She says all but two were not wearing seatbelts. McCreedy says there is a lot of work to do in seat belt usage if the State Patrol reaches their goal for 2021 with under 300 deaths on Iowa’s roadways.
