(Des Moines) Iowa District 11 Republican Senator Tom Shipley, of Nodaway, says kids need to be in school. The Iowa Legislature passed a Bill last week mandating every school district in Iowa holds classes in person 100% of the time. Governor Reynolds signed the bill into law on Friday morning.
“Parents want their children in school, and we have some districts that won’t do anything but virtual,” said Shipley. “The rub is those districts won’t let those students transfer to another district where they can be in a classroom. I’m speaking primarily about the Des Moines Public Schools.”
Shipley says the Bill states if parents want their children in school, they will now have that option. Districts could allow virtual classes along with in-person learning. School districts have until February 15 to transition back to the classroom.
