Marilyn Kay Newell, the daughter of Harry and Maxine (Robinson) Newell, was born July 9, 1945 at her parents’ home in Gray, Iowa and died December 21, 2020 at her home in Gray at the age of 75 years, 5 months, and 12 days.
Marilyn was baptized in June of 2020 at her home in Gray. She attended Gray Consolidated school through eighth grade and graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1963. Following high school, Marilyn became a nurse’s aide at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon. She was employed there for 35 years before retiring to take care of her mother until her death in November of 2000. Marilyn then worked in the Bakery at the local grocery store for a short time. She returned to her roots as a nurse’s aide at the Friendship Home in Audubon until she retired in March of 2020.
Marilyn loved to bake and enjoyed cleaning and always had an immaculate home and car. She had a passion for doing yardwork and tending to her flower garden. But above all, Marilyn loved being with her family, her nieces, nephew, and her great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Preceding Marilyn in death were her parents; her sister, Esther Bengard; her brothers: Leroy “Pete” Newell, Wayne “Buck” Newell, and John Newell; and her niece, Jan Kasperbauer.
Survivors include her brother-in-law, Jed Bengard, Sr. of Dedham, Iowa; her nieces: Joan and husband Bill Cramer of Gray, Iowa; Jane and husband Tom Hoffman of Coon Rapids, Iowa; and Julie and husband Gary Danner, also of Dedham; her nephew, Jed Bengard, Jr of Exira, Iowa; as well as many great-nephews, great-nieces, other relatives and friends.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at the Gray Cemetery in Gray, Iowa with Pastor Lori Shannon officiating. Interment will be in the Gray Cemetery. There will be no viewing or visitation, but friends may visit Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon to sign the guestbook on Sunday, December 27, 2020 from 12:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. The family will not be present during this time. Casket bearers will be Jason Bush, Tony Bush, Terry Hoffman, Heath Kasperbauer, and Jed Kasperbauer.
