(Atlantic) Maddax DeVault scored 27-points to lead Nodaway Valley past Atlantic 69-51 in a non-Conference girls’ basketball game at Atlantic on Saturday.
Lindsay Davis and Lexi Shike each scored eight points, and Annika Nelson and Corrine Bond pitched in with six points apiece.
Jada Jensen paced Atlantic with 14-points, and Haley Rasmussen scored 13. Taylor McCreedy added nine points, Lauren Nicholas tossed in, 7, Maycie Waters, 3, Tessa Grooms, and Malena Woodward, two each, and Maddie Huddleson finished the night with one.
It was the third period that proved to be the turning point for Nodaway Valley. The Trojans kept it close early. The Wolverines crept ahead 18-16 after one quarter and 31-26 at the break. Taylor McCreedy buried a three-point shot at the buzzer to bring her squad within two points. Nodaway Valley stretched the lead to 31-25 at the break.
The Wolverines blew open the game on a 10-0 run in the third quarter and outscored the Trojans 25-12. DeVault paced the visitors with 11 third-quarter points. Lindsay Davis also added fuel to the fire with seven points.
Atlantic falls to 3-5 on the season. Nodaway Valley moves to 7-0.
