Brenda was born at the Atlantic Hospital on February 6, 1961, the daughter of Jackie and Violet (Anderson) Knight. She was baptized and confirmed at the United Church of Christ in Atlantic. She attended the Atlantic Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1979. She spent her entire life enjoying Atlantic, and in her earlier years, she was known for spending much of her time with the local fur trade trapping and skinning wildlife down at the old fur shed on 2nd Street with her grandpa Cassie Knight.
She met her future husband, Paul Brown, at a local drive-in theater. During their dating years, Paul was known to ride his bicycle from Cumberland to Atlantic to spend time with Brenda. After a few years of dating, they were united in marriage on February 26, 1983, at the United Church of Christ. They were blessed with three children; Aaron, Shelly, and Ryan. Brenda was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Atlantic Care Center for a short time and decided to dedicate the rest of her life to raising her family. Brenda was known as “Mama Brown” to most of those who knew her. She was a mother figure to her children and many of her children’s friends as well. She remained busy trying to keep up with her kids and grandkids at local sporting events, wrestling tournaments, and eventually giving them rides on her electric wheelchair.
She enjoyed quilting, cross-stitching, fishing, hunting, trapping, camping, dancing, and singing karaoke at local establishments in her spare time. Brenda was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers fan. She was also the Secretary of the Southwest Iowa C.B. radio club and was known for her “check-in” every Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Brown of Atlantic; children: Aaron (Mallory) Brown of Dallas Center, Iowa, Shelly Brown (Rob Loving) of Atlantic, Ryan (Dawn) Brown of Fontanelle, Iowa; parents, Jackie and Violet Knight of Atlantic; grandchildren Aidan, Grayson, Brianna, Madison, Mason, Kaylani, Kynleigh, and Kensington; brothers, Norman (Chanda) Knight and Kelly Knight both of Atlantic; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Raymond and Iva Anderson, Cassie and Addie Knight, and nephew, K.J. Knight.
