(Atlantic) Kelsey Fields scored 27-points to lead Creston past Atlantic 63-49 in a Hawkeye Ten Conference girls’ basketball game at Atlantic on Friday night.
Fields knocked down 11 shots, including a three-point basket, and went 6-7 from the free-throw line. Brianna Fields finished in double figures with 11-points, and Doryn Paup came off the bench and netted 10-points for the Panthers.
Haley Rasmussen led Atlantic with 22-points. Eighteen of the senior’s 22 points came from behind the arc. Maycie Waters and Jada Jensen each scored eight points to lead Atlantic.
The Panthers raced out to a 10-0 run and extended the lead to 19-8 at the end of the first quarter. Fields’ 8-second quarter points helped push the visitor’s lead to 31-20 at the break.
Atlantic played step-for-step with the Panthers in the third period and trailed 48-36. Creston went into a four-corner offense mid-way through the fourth quarter and melted two minutes off the clock, ending any hopes for a Trojan rally, to seal the 63-49 win.
The Panthers go to 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Hawkeye Ten. Atlantic falls to 2-3 and 1-2 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference.
