(Glenwood) Top-ranked Glenwood opened the girls’ basketball season with a 68-52 road win over Atlantic on Friday night.
Madison Camden scored 17-points, and Jenna Hopp tossed in 16-points to lead the Rams. Haley Rasmussen led the Trojans with 15-points, Lauren Nicholas scored 11-points, and Maycie Waters added 10.
Glenwood held a narrow 15-14 lead in the first quarter and outscored the Trojans 20-12 in the second frame to open up a 34-26 lead at the break. Madison Camden, picking up where she left off a year ago, paced the Ram offense with nine-second quarter points.
Abby Hughes knocked down a key three-point basket in the third quarter and scored five points, Jenna Hopp added four, and four others contributed, pushing the Rams lead to 50-35.
The Trojans played even in the fourth quarter, led by Jada Jensen’s six points, however, the hill was too steep to climb, and Glenwood sealed the win 68-52.
Coryl Metheny, Abby Hughes, and Brynlee Arnold each scored eight points for Glenwood, and Emma Hughes and Morgan Stanislav each finished with five.
Besides Rasmussen and Waters, Jada Jensen finished with 7 points, Taylor McCreedy, 4, Maddie Huddleson, 3, and Tessa Grooms and Malena Woodward each scored one point.
Glenwood starts the season at 1-0, Atlantic falls to 0-2, and play Griswold today, Clarinda on Tuesday, and Creston on Friday.
