(Red Oak) A Montgomery County jury found Joseph Norris of Red Oak not guilty of election misconduct last week.
On July 1, 2026, Montgomery County Deputies arrested 36-year-old Joseph Christopher Norris on the charge of Election Misconduct in the first degree, a Class C Felony. The case stemmed from an incident in November 2024. The State Attorney General’s Office assisted the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.
Norris was accused of interfering with the election process while helping count absentee ballots during the 2024 presidential election. According to WOWTV, which attended the trial, prosecutors argued his actions hindered the process, while the defense-maintained Norris was trying to ensure election rules were followed. Jurors ultimately determined Norris did not intend to interfere with the ballot count.
Norris released this statement during the public comments portion of Tuesday’s Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting.
WOWTV also reported that Norris will not face jail time after the acquittal, but he still expects to pay up to $50,000 in legal fees. He also expressed concern about having to disclose the felony charge on certain background checks and insurance applications, despite being found not guilty.
