Southeast Iowa Crash Claims One Life

(Ollie) One person died, and another individual suffered injuries in a two-vehicle crash in Keokuk County

The Iowa State Patrol reports the accident happened at 2:45 pm on Thursday at 270^th Avenue and 335^th Street. Authorities say 83-year-old Phillip J. Blackhurst of Sigourney, Iowa, died in the crash. Authorities identified the injured person as 65-year-old Steven J. Greiner of Packwood, Iowa.

According to the report, Blackhurst was driving a 2017 Ram ProMaster van, and Greiner was driving a 2013 GMC Sierra pickup, both traveling northbound on 270th Avenue approaching 335th Street. Greiner slowed to make a right turn when Blackhurst’s van rear-ended the pickup.

Both vehicles came to rest in the southbound ditch.
