(Audubon, IA) — Not even the mud could stop the top ranked Audubon Wheelers from winning an 8 Man slopfest with Fremont Mills 44-7 on Friday night.
With an 8-0 lead, Fremont Mills had to punt deep in their own territory and Hudson Hocker for the Wheelers had nobody in front of him. So he rushed the punter and blocked it clean — the pigskin slithered its way towards the goal line and Hocker was able to fall on it but on the one yard line. Aiden Kjergaard took it from there as he started a string of five straight TDs for Audubon.
Early in the 2nd quarter, Kjergaard broke free for a 54 yard TD run to make it 30-0 Wheelers but the Knights Paxton Campbell got free for a 65 yard TD run to put Fremont Mills on the board. A few seconds after that, Kjergaard said whatever you can do, I can do better and he broke free with a 69 yard TD run to make it 36-7. Three long touchdowns in about 30 seconds.
After Fremont Mills fumbled it at their own 5 yard line, Kjergaard’s 5th TD of the night made it running clock — it was 44-7 at the half. The 2nd half was a tussle in the mud as neither team could score.
