(Creston) Creston carries a non-district record of 2-3 into Friday’s district opener against Atlantic. The Panthers feature a high-powered offense averaging just shy of 40 points per game.
The Panthers piled up 2,228 yards of total offense in non-district action, with 1,177 passing and 1,111 rushing. Creston Head Coach Brian Morrison says the offense has shown significant improvement through the first five games.
Senior quarterback Tanner Ray has completed 58.5 percent of his passes for 1,129 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has also carried the ball 61 times for 578 yards. Morrison says Ray is a three-year starter, and after taking some lumps his sophomore year, he improved as a quarterback his junior year and has become a good leader.
Heading into District play, Morrison says the team is healthy through the first five games, which included a week-zero game against Centerville.
Coach Morrison says the Trojans are a well-coached team, with athletic players. Morrison says the biggest concern is getting the Trojans offense off the field as quickly as possible.
The game features two outstanding running backs. Atlantic senior Ethan McNeal is averaging 8.5 yards per carry for 547 yards and seven touchdowns. Creston sophomore running back Gabe Kaufman averages 5.7 yards per carry for 496 yards and two touchdowns.
