CDC: Lettuce Sold At Taco Bell Linked To Cyclosporiasis, But Not In Iowa
(Washington, D.C.) — The CDC says lettuce served at Taco Bell is linked to the cyclosporiasis outbreak, but not at any Iowa locations. Health officials are investigating shredded iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms as a source of the outbreak. Though Taylor Farms didn’t supply the lettuce to Iowa Taco Bells, their products are sold in Walmart, Target and Fareway stores across the state. Thousands of cyclosporiasis cases have been reported in 34 states, including 55 cases in Iowa over the past two months. The illness causes explosive diarrhea and intense abdominal pain.

(Des Moines, IA) — DART is once again offering fairgoers three-dollar rides to and from the Iowa State Fairgrounds during this year’s fair. The transit agency announced its Park & Ride service will pick up passengers at two locations: the Iowa State Capitol and the parking garage at Seventh and Center streets in downtown Des Moines. Service will run daily from 8 a.m. to midnight throughout the fair. On the final day, buses will operate until 9 p.m., when the fairgrounds close. The Iowa State Fair runs August 13th through the 23rd.

(Des Moines, IA) — Air travelers flying out of Des Moines International Airport will soon have a direct flight to Nashville, Tennessee. Southwest Airlines will begin new, daily nonstop service to Nashville beginning in March of 2027. In addition, Southwest plans a seasonal increase in daily direct flights from Des Moines to Phoenix. The six air carriers at the Des Moines airport offer more than 30 nonstop flights throughout the year, serving more destinations than any other airport in the state.

(Onawa, IA) — RAGBRAI kicks off tomorrow in Onawa, a small western Iowa town near the Missouri River. Tens of thousands of bicyclists are expected to participate in the Register’s 53rd Great Bike Ride Across Iowa. They’ll make stops in Harlan, Guthrie Center, Boone, Marshalltown, Independence and Dyersville before ending the week-long ride in Dubuque on July 25. This year’s 391-mile-long route is the shortest in RAGBRAI history.
