(Cumming, Iowa) — Could art be the secret to removing some of the nitrates in the water? Two Drake University art professors have installed a floating public art piece in a pond at Wilson’s Orchard in Cumming. The artwork looks like a barn quilt, but it is made of repurposed plastic children’s toys that have been cut and sewn together.
Edward Kelley is one of the artists. The sculpture is 18 by 18 feet and includes filters that remove nitrates and monitor nitrate levels. It’s on display through September.
