(Audubon, IA) — Postseason softball is right around the corner and Exira-EHK-Audubon is wrapping up their regular season with some competitive non-conference opponents next week.
The tried-and-true Spartan-Wheelers have drawn a lot of attention in class 1A with their drastic improvement from last year in which they ended up neutral in conference play. This year, they locked in a record of 12-4 in the WIC with some unfamiliar non-conference opponents still awaiting them. Exira-EHK-Audubon will kick off next week visiting Woodbine, a team that boasts a 5-1 record in the Rolling Valley. On Tuesday, The Spartan-Wheelers host the 18-7 Newell-Fonda Mustangs, then travel to Coon Rapids-Bayard on Wednesday. As a team, Exira-EHK-Audubon has nearly a .500 on-base percentage, a stat that Head Coach Tom Peterson says starts with discipline:
Riley Miller and Taryn Peterson take on the duties in the circle for Exira-EHK-Audubon, combining for 180 strikeouts and just a 2.02 ERA this season. With a record of 11-4 in the circle, Coach Peterson says Miller takes a lot of pressure off the defense:
Many eyes will certainly be watching the team as the #2 ranked club in 1A. Coach Peterson says it all comes down to execution:
The Spartan-Wheelers will start the postseason hosting the winner of Stanton vs. East Mills on July 8th.
