(Coon Rapids, IA) — With a 17-2 record, Coon Rapids Bayard is the team to beat in Class 1A, ranked number one in the state. The Crusaders are led by the Heydon brothers — Senior Cal, Junior Ty and Freshman Blake. Head Coach John Waddle says the team has been battling injuries to start the season and is only now starting to get healthy
Waddle says the goal is to get Cal Heydon back to being a full time starter, Blake Heydon has only made two pitching appearances this season, and Ty Heydon has a 1.29 ERA in 6 appearances. Ty is also swinging a hot bat — after being very good last year with a .430, he has taken his game to a new level batting an incredible .614 with 4 HR and 34 RBI
Waddle says its not just the Heydons who are contributing — Senior Max Shirbroun has a 1.56 ERA in 4 starts and 7 appearances; Junior Caden Oswald has a 2.23 ERA in 6 appearances and 3 starts. Offensively, Senior Mason Culbertson is regaining his form
Coon Rapids Bayard will visit Boyer Valley tonight and host Glidden Ralston on Wednesday.
