(Council Bluffs) Council Bluffs will kick off the Independence Day weekend a day early with a free community celebration marking America’s 250th anniversary.
The Hundred Block Community Collective will host Council Bluffs Celebrates 250 on Friday, July 3, from 3 to 11 p.m. in the Historic 100 Block of West Broadway. The street festival will feature live entertainment, family activities, food, local vendors and a drone show to commemorate the nation’s 250th milestone.
The event’s Kid Zone, open from 3 to 9 p.m. in partnership with American Legion Post 2, will offer free activities for children throughout the afternoon and evening. Entertainment includes live performances by The Yachties and Now & Forever on the main stage, while DJ JPEG will provide family-friendly music in the Kid Zone. Families can also enjoy a hydrant party splash zone, face painting, balloon art, sidewalk chalk, yard games and sports activities.
A Family Zone and Community Hub near Park and Glen avenues will feature local organizations providing information, resources and activities. Participating groups include Habitat for Humanity, PACE (Pottawattamie Arts, Culture & Entertainment), the Veterans Services Office and the Council Bluffs Public Library.
The evening will conclude with a synchronized drone show at 9:45 p.m., illuminating the downtown skyline in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
Visitors can also browse a designated vendor lane featuring local businesses. Businesses throughout the Historic 100 Block will also be open during the celebration.
