(Atlantic) Keston Schmitt’s performance at the plate has improved significantly since the start of the season. This past week, Schmitt highlighted that progress by blasting a three-run home run and delivering a bases-loaded walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure a victory over Shenandoah on Friday night. For his efforts, Schmitt is this week’s KS95.7 F.M. Armour Insurance Athlete of the Week.
The senior third baseman and pitcher went 1-for-2 at the plate on Thursday, including a three-run home run in a loss to Shenandoah. Schmitt followed that performance by going 2-for-3 on Friday, playing an integral role in avenging Thursday’s defeat to the Mustangs.
Atlantic Head Coach Nathan Block praised Schmitt for his perseverance.
Schmitt’s current batting average is the third-highest on the team. Kale Jensen is hitting, .370, Paxton Pross, .262, and Schmitt is hitting .250.
The Trojans travel to St. Albert tonight for a doubleheader.
