(Griswold, IA) — The Fremont-Mills Knights were wanting to hold onto a one-run lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, but Griswold-CAM’s Ailey Wahlert and Courtney Follmann had other plans.
The game started out in favor of the Tigers with a 2-run shot to left-center field from Amanda Houser, her first homer of the season which also brought in Carsyn Adams who had reached on an error. It didn’t take much time for the Knights to respond in the top of the second, with a leadoff triple from third basemen Kinley Blackburn, eventually scoring on a past ball. Things slowed down in the bottom of the second and the top of the third, but Griswold-CAM was able to extend the lead to 3-1 with an RBI double from Courtney Follmann. Follmann was thrown out attempting to extend the hit to a triple, ending the inning.
The next two innings were heavily in favor of the Knights courtesy of Saige Mitchell’s 2-RBI double to left-center and some smart baserunning from Carlie Nuckolls on a sacrifice from Adelynn Billingsley. Up 4-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth, Griswold-CAM was looking down for the count, getting retired in order the last two innings, until cleanup hitter Ailey Wahlert turned the tides. A solo shot to left-center, Wahlert jogged around the bases to tie the game up. If the home crowd wasn’t already excited, they certainly were when Follmann hit a hard line-drive the pitch after to left field with just enough launch angle to clear the fence and take the lead. With all the momentum they needed and more, Ailey Wahlert sent the Knights down in order in the top of the seventh with two groundouts and a flyout to right field. When it was all said and done, Follmann ended up with a triple short of the cycle on just three at-bats:

This win gives Griswold-CAM the lead in the Corner Conference with a record of 10-1, and Fremont-Mills falls to second with their only conference loss of the season putting them at 9-1.
