(Council Bluffs) The Atlantic Softball team remains undefeated in the Hawkeye Ten Conference with a sweep on the Road over St. Albert on Monday night. The Trojans won the first game 12-1, and closed out the night with an 8-0.
In game one, Atlantic rolled to a 12-1 victory using a balanced offensive attack and aggressive baserunning. Peyton McLaren picked up the win in the circle, allowing one run on six hits, four strikeouts, and one walk in six innings of work.
The Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Makenna Schroeder scored on a throwing error. Claire Schroder added a solo home run in the second, and Peyton McLaren followed with an RBI single to make it 3-0. Atlantic extended the lead to 7-0 through five innings behind a run-scoring groundout from Zoey Kirchoff, a sacrifice bunt by Makenna Schroeder, an RBI single from London Kirchoff, and a run scored on a passed ball.
St. Albert scored its lone run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Lyla Kohlhaas.
The Trojans responded with five runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a sacrifice bunt from Reese Ball, a two-run double by Makenna Schroeder, and a two-run single from London Kirchoff to secure the 12-1 win.
London Kirchoff drove in three runs, Makenna Schroeder had a two-run double and scored multiple runs, and Claire Schroder sparked the offense with her home run.
Leighton Finnegan went 2-3 at the plate to lead the Saintes. Grace Hughes, Lila Kohlhaas, Lilyan Heine, and Paysen Venner each had one hit.
In game two, Brynn Lamp picked up the win in the circle, allowing no runs on one hit, while striking out six hitters, and no walks in seven innings of work. The Trojans scored eight runs on nine hits.
Atlantic used timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to earn an 8-0 victory over St. Albert.
The Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Dylin Ball scored on L Wiederstein’s double. Wiederstein later scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0.
Atlantic added two more runs in the fourth as Peyton McLaren and Kinsley Johnson both scored on passed balls, extending the lead to 4-0.
In the fifth, Jillian Saathoff singled to left field to drive in Zoey Kirchoff for a 5-0 advantage. Claire Schroder then delivered a two-run double, scoring McLaren and Saathoff to push the lead to 7-0.
The final run scored when Alivia Knuth was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing home Schroder and sealing the 8-0 win.
Jillian led the Trojans with three hits in four at-bats with one RBI. Lila Wiederstein and Claire Schroder were each 2-4. Schroder drove in two runs. London Kirchhoff and Zoey Kirchhoff each had one hit.
Grace Hughes had the only hit for the Saintes.
