(Oakland, IA) — Earlier this week, Riverside Senior 1B Madison Kelley broke the school’s all time career hits record — she currently has 150 hits through Thursday’s games which breaks 201 grad Kenna Ford’s record. Kelley gives credit to her teammates for making her better and does not think she will hold the record long
Fellow Senior Adaline Martens is not far away from Kelley — she has 147 career hits through Thursday’s games. Kelley is a career .374 hitter with 11 HR and 142 RBI. She has 12 runs, 32 doubles and 6 triples in her career. She says there are so many good hitters on this Bulldog team
Riverside was 3-4 through their first 7 games but they have won 9 in a row after Thursday’s win over Underwood — this week, the Bulldogs beat #7 Logan Magnolia twice and also topped #3 Exira EHK/Audubon. Kelley says the confidence for the team is high after the big wins
Kelley says the team has amazing chemistry — she does not want to even think about going to the state tournament, preferring to take it one game at a time. Riverside has moved to #6 in the 2A rankings — the top eight teams will get a very important number one seed in the regionals. Kelley says no matter what they just need to stay together
Kelley will be attending the University of Nebraska in the fall and plans to major in business administration. Riverside will play in the Nodaway Valley tournament on Saturday and they host #4 ranked Missouri Valley on Monday.
