(Atlantic) The #10 Atlantic softball team posted a decisive win at Shenandoah on Thursday evening.
The Trojans scored 12 runs on 12 hits and committed one error.
Atlantic senior catcher Lila Wiederstein set the tone for Atlantic with a lead-off home run in the top of the first inning. The Trojans plated four more runs to grab a 5-0 lead early. The Trojans added seven more runs in the top of the second, and the Trojans sealed the deal in four innings.
Besides Wiederstein’s home run, Jillian Saathoff went two for three with an RBI, London Kirchhoff went two for three with two RBI, and Zoey Kirchhoff went two for three with an RBI.
Peyton McLaren picked up the win in the circle for the Trojans, allowing no runs on one hit, eight strikeouts, and no walks.
Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzmann says most of the teams in this 16-team league are ranked. The Trojans are seeded 11th. The Trojans open with a tough Clear-Creek Amana team, and he says it gets more difficult from there.
The Trojans extend their record to 19-2 on the season. The Fort Dodge Tournament brackets are posted on our website at westerniowatoday.com.
