(Washington, D.C.) Representative Zach Nunn, of Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District, recently joined Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds as she signed legislation into law to make it a felony to torture animals.
The law creates a Class D felony charge for animal torture, including intentionally causing severe pain or death to a companion animal. The charge increases to a Class C felony for repeat animal cruelty offenders.
This law mirrors efforts Representative Zach Nunn has led in Washington D.C.
Nunn noted they still stand with sportsmen and want to protect pheasant hunting and outdoor dog recreation. He said they want to ensure those who are doing things the right way — whether good breeders or sportsmen taking their hounds out — have the opportunity to do so and are not tainted by bad actors who have tried to set up shop in places like Iowa.
