(Washington, D.C.) The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday passed the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act , landmark housing reform legislation that includes Representative Zach Nunn’s (IA-03) Rural Housing Service Reform Act to modernize outdated USDA housing programs and expand access to affordable housing in rural communities.
The bill establishes a permanent program to preserve USDA-financed affordable rental housing, upgrades USDA technology and staffing to accelerate application processing, expands home repair grants for rural families, and increases accountability through annual reporting requirements and GAO audits to safeguard taxpayer dollars.
