(Lewis) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced the dates for this year’s annual Free Fishing Weekend.
John Lorenzen, Fisheries Biologist with the DNR, shared the details during an appearance on the Weekly DNR program on KSOM. This year, Free Fishing Weekend will take place on June 5, 6, and 7, giving anglers the chance to fish in public waters across Iowa without a license.
Lorenzen explained that the event aims to encourage new anglers to discover the sport of fishing.
As part of the weekend, youth fishing events will be held in Adair County on June 6, including one at Lake Orient at 8:00 a.m. and another at Lake Anita at 10:00 a.m. Lorenzen will attend both events with the DNR’s fishing trailer to introduce young anglers to the various fish species found in southwest Iowa waters.
After his presentation, kids will have the opportunity to fish on their own.
