Wayne Franklin was born on June 24, 1949, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Leo and Mary (Kelly) Franklin. He attended Marshalltown schools and graduated with the Class of 1967. Following high school, Wayne continued his education at a two-year college where he earned his Associate’s Degree in electronics.
Wayne was a lifelong sports fan and especially loved cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed following games, talking sports, and sharing those moments with family and friends. Family was at the center of Wayne’s life, and he especially treasured being an uncle. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, attending family gatherings, and creating lasting memories with those he loved most. Wayne also dedicated many years of his career to working as a manager for Long John Silver’s, where he was known for his hard work and dedication.
Wayne will be remembered for his love of family, his loyalty, his sense of humor, and the joy he found in the simple moments spent with those closest to him. On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Wayne passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, having attained the age of 76 years, 10 months and 16 days. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Mary Franklin; and brother Robert Franklin.
Left to cherish his memory are his siblings John Franklin of Mason City, IA; Janice (Dennis) Long of Lincoln, NE; Raymond Franklin of Marshalltown, IA; Donna Ellis of Indian Head, MD; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Mass of Christian Burial for 76 year old Wayne Franklin of Avoca will be held May 16th at 11:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Avoca.
