A series of severe storms moved through parts of Mills, Fremont, and Montgomery counties in Iowa, causing significant wind and hail damage. Emergency management officials and trained spotters reported impacts across multiple communities.
The following storm damage reports were reported to the National Weather Service:
Wind Damage Reports:
- Tabor, IA, (66:20 p.m.: Trees were reported down, according to Fremont County Emergency Management.
- 2 N Randolph, IA (6:23 p.m.): Farm augers were blown over, and grain wagons were moved, reported by Mills County Emergency Management.
- Imogene, IA. (6:37 p.m.): Trees were downed in town, according to Fremont County Emergency Management.
- Emerson, IA (66:40 p.m.: A tree was reported down at Emerson Cemetery, Mills County, Broadcast Media reported.
- Red Oak, IA.(6:54 p.m.): Power outages affected parts of town. Power poles and trees were downed, according to Montgomery County Amateur Radio reports.
- Stanton, IA. A trained spotter reported damage to siding and roofing.
Wind Gust Observations:
- Stanton, IA (7:02 p.m.): A gust of 58 MPH was recorded, correcting an earlier report.
- Villisca, IA 7:02 p.m.M): A 59 MPH gust was observed at a public weather station.
- 2 W Red Oak, IA (6:58 p.m.): The KRDK Red Oak Airport AWOS recorded a 74 MPH wind gust.
Hail Reports:
- 1 NE Emerson, IA (6:43 p.m.): Storm chasers reported hail measuring approximately 1 inch in diameter.
Officials are advising residents to check on family, friends, and neighbors, especially older people or those with special needs, and to avoid unnecessary travel in damaged areas. At the same time, emergency crews and utility workers respond.
