Early In-Person Voting Begins Today In Iowa
(Des Moines, IA) — Early voting is underway in Iowa, leading up to the June 2nd Iowa Primary Election. A couple of key races include narrowing the field of candidates for governor, Iowa’s four U.S. Congressional districts, and the U.S. Senate seat left open by Joni Ernst, who is not running again. Early voting in-person kicked off on Wednesday and is available at local county auditor’s offices.
New Study: Housing, Food Costs Driving Up Prices for Iowans
(Des Moines, IA) — Annual inflation soared above four percent in the Midwest in April, driving up costs in Iowa. A new study from the Common-Sense Institute shows the typical Iowa household is paying more than 14-hundred dollars a month more than in 2020 for the same standard of living. Those costs include housing, food, and transportation. Ben Murrey of CSI says while inflation in the Midwest is trending higher than the rest of the country, Iowa remains the most affordable state to live in nationally.
Iowa Governor Reynolds Signs Law Raising Per-Student Charter School Funding
(Des Moines, IA) — Public charter schools in Iowa are getting more taxpayer money. Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill into law Tuesday that would send an additional 12-hundred dollars per student to the state’s 10 charter schools and 18 authorized charters. That would bring the total per-student amount to $8,000 annually. The new law also allows charter school students to participate in extracurricular activities at the state’s public schools.
