(Mason City, IA) — The Atlantic Boys Golf team travelled all the way to Mason City to compete in the Elite Showdown hosted by Clear Lake and the Trojans finished in a respectable third place — losing out on a tiebreaker to Onalaska, WI and only stroke behind the winner Humboldt.
The Wildcats had a team score of 306 while Atlantic and the Hilltoppers tied with a 307. ADM was 4th with a 310 and Independence followed in 5th place with a 312.
Dawson Fuelling of Independence was the individual winner with a (-1) 70 — he started on number 10 and had 8 pars and one bogey on the back nine. Three birdies and a bogey completed his round on the front nine.
Colson Mersch of West Delaware was 2nd with a 71; Dawson Sleiter of Humboldt 3rd with a 71; Cade Birdsell of Humboldt 4th with a 72 and Chasen Witte of Onalaska was 5th with a 74.
Atlantic was led by Brady Wood who was 11th with a (+4) 75 — Wood had a great stretch with birdies on hole 1, 2 and 4 but had a double bogey on hole #3. He had four bogeys and the rest pars on his round.
Hudson McLaren also shot 75 and finished in 15th place — McLaren was pretty consistent with 15 pars on the day and only one tough score, a double bogey 6 on the most difficult hole on the course.
Also for Atlantic, Gage Gross was 16th with a 76; Sam Brosam was 36th with an 81; Jack Muller was 55th with an 84; and Braxton Hass was 81st with a 93.
It was the last competition for Atlantic before Sectionals which are at Knoxville on Wednesday, May 13 with a 10:00 am tee time.
