(Red Oak) The U.S. Department of Agriculture is investing millions of dollars into rural water infrastructure projects across Iowa, including a major wastewater improvement project in southwest Iowa.
USDA Rural Development Iowa State Director Mike Sexton announced the agency will provide $6.78 million in grants and $37.6 million in loans for projects in five Iowa counties through the USDA Rural Development Water and Wastewater Disposal Loans and Grants program.
In southwest Iowa, the city of Red Oak will receive a $20.2 million loan to upgrade its wastewater treatment facility.
The project includes construction of a new treatment system to replace the city’s aging facility, improvements to a lift station, and lining a large portion of the collection system to reduce infiltration and inflow issues.
Officials said the improvements will help the city remain in compliance with water quality standards while promoting the health and safety of residents and visitors in the rural Montgomery County community.
