(Atlantic) Setting the Seasonal Wastewater Wage for 2026 is one of several items on the Atlantic City Council’s agenda on Wednesday.
According to Atlantic City Administrator John Lund, the City Council authorized a Wastewater Intern in the Spring of 2025 for the FY 2025 and FY 2026 Budgets. This position was funded by a $5,000.00 grant through the Iowa Water Environment Association (IWEA). The grant covers all taxes and employer taxes for the Intern. Lund says the new Wastewater Superintendent, Travis Hanson, would like to pursue the grant again. The estimated duration of the internship is 12 weeks, approximately 20 hours per week.
The job description includes, demonstrate an understanding of disinfection and chlorination processes, identify the lab procedures used to monitor disinfection and chlorination, demonstrate an understanding of the treatment processes, demonstrate an understanding of sludge stabilization, describe the various processes for conditioning and dewatering sludge, demonstrate an understanding of the purpose for disinfecting wastewater, demonstrate the ability to interpret a wastewater discharge permit, understand the need and steps taken to operate water valves within the distribution system, and locate, evaluate, document manhole conditions.
Lund adds that $18.00 per hour is the same wage offered last spring/summer.
This item was reviewed by the Personnel & Finance Committee on April 20, 2026, and unanimously recommended for approval.
The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on Wednesday, May 6.
