(Atlanta, GA) — Tick bites are on the rise in the U.S.
The CDC reports seeing the highest number of tick bite emergency room visits since 2017. Ninety-six out of 100-thousand ER visits in April were for tick bites, three times the number recorded in March. So far, the Northeast and Midwest have been the most impacted.
It’s a big issue because ticks can carry Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever and something called alpha-gal syndrome, a condition that can cause a meat allergy.
The CDC says you can protect yourself by wearing insect-repellent and avoiding grassy, wooded or bushy areas.
