(Belmond, Iowa) Two people are dead following a two-vehicle crash in Wright County.
The accident happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday on Highway 69 near 200th Street, just south of Belmond. According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2000 Ford Ranger traveling south attempted an illegal U-turn and was hit by a southbound Dodge Ram 1500.
Officials identified the victims as the Ford’s driver, 65-year-old Michael Thomas Mickelson, and his passenger, 71-year-old Ellen Kay Countryman, both from Belmond. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released details about the condition of the 25-year-old driver of the Dodge Ram.
