(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand is proposing mandatory jail time for individuals convicted of stealing public funds. The sentencing rule is one of several legislative priorities Sand discussed yesterday. Under his plan, anyone found guilty of stealing at least $10,000 in taxpayer money would have to serve time behind bars and would not be eligible for probation only. Sand also says he wants to have Senate File 478 repealed, arguing the law allows state agencies to hide financial information from the auditor’s office.
