(Harlan) The Shelby County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved several key items during their recent meeting, including wage adjustments, opioid fund allocation, and a trail maintenance agreement.
The Board unanimously approved a proposal by County Engineer Dan Fredericksen to adjust the requirements and pay for Secondary Roads seasonal employees. The revised policy lowers the minimum requirement to a Class C driver’s license with a starting wage of $18 per hour. Applicants with a CDL will start at $19 per hour.
The Supervisors also approved a $1.50 per hour wage increase for all Non-Union Secondary Roads Department employees, excluding the engineer, effective July 1, 2025, and before any cost-of-living adjustments.
Jail Administrator Kyle Lindberg received approval to use Opioid Settlement Funds in Fiscal Year 2026 to implement a customizable Sheriff’s App. The app aims to enhance community outreach with opioid prevention and treatment resources.
The Board also signed off on a Maintenance Agreement with the Iowa DOT for Phase 2 of the Ballpark-to-Ballpark Trail. The agreement places mowing and snow removal responsibilities with the Shelby County Conservation Board.
Additionally, the Board held a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the Fiscal Year 2025 budget. With no public comments received, the budget amendment was approved unanimously.
