(Audubon, IA) – The Audubon Wheelers are currently rated the fifth-best team in class 2A and will host their entire route to state if they can keep winning. The Wheelers are coming off of their first-ever regular season Western Iowa Conference title and with a mix of underclassmen and seniors, the team is ready to make a postseason push.
Head softball coach Andrea Schwery says they are glad to be playing at home but need to play at their best.
The Wheelers have been fueled by their pitching this season with freshman Riley Miller and senior Alexis Obermeier leading the way for Audubon in the pitcher’s circle so far. What was more of a rotation in the regular season will now shift to Miller being the starter and Obermeier in relief.
Schwery is more confident in the defense with Obermeier at first base.
The Wheelers are coming off a week-long break after their win against Glidden-Ralston and their other non-conference games like Martensdale-St Marys. The Blue Devils defeated the Wheelers 9-4 but Audubon held the lead through the top of the fifth. The No. 1 ranked team in 1A handed the Wheelers their first loss of the season since May 31st.
Schwery believes the loss was good for them to humble the team and show them where they need to improve.
The Wheelers will take on East Sac County tonight in Audubon starting at 7:00.
