(Anita, IA) – The CAM Cougars advanced to the second round after defeating IKM Manning 7-3 on Monday. The Cougars started slow but tallied four runs in the bottom of the third inning giving them the lead and they didn’t look back. CAM was led by eighth-grader Keeley Kinney and senior Emma Follmann who combined for five hits, three runs, three RBIs and a pair of doubles. As a team CAM had 12 hits and didn’t strike out once. In the pitcher’s circle, eighth-grader Ailey Wahlert recorded the win pitching all seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits and tallied 13 strikeouts.
Coach Jeni Follmann thought they played well in their win.
The Cougars will now set their sights on Earlham, rated No. 11 in 1A, who comes in with a five-game win streak.
Follmann knows they must play their best game and limit small mistakes to keep playing.
The Cardinals come into this contest with the fourth-highest batting average in 1A, batting .366 as a team, and are led by junior Haley Glade, who bats .538 with 11 home runs and 54 RBIs on the season. With an eighth-grader in the pitcher’s circler for the Cougars, it will be a big test for everyone in the CAM dugout.
Follmann knows that Earlham will put the ball in play and emphasizes their defense in this one.
CAM will play Earlham in Earlham starting Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
