(Audubon) On Tuesday, the Audubon County Board of Supervisors voted to reinstate the County Compensation Board.
As of July 1st, the Compensation Board no longer exists. The Iowa legislature passed a bill that allows the Board of Supervisors to decide whether to have one. If they choose not to, the Board of Supervisors will act as the Compensation Board. Compensation Boards were in charge of reviewing and comparing elected officials’ salaries and recommending a compensation schedule.
Audubon County Supervisor Chairman Heath Hanson says he understands why the state decided on the counties’ behalf whether or not to keep a compensation board.
In Iowa, the County Compensation Board consists of seven county residents. The Board of Supervisors appoints two members, and the elected officials appoint five members. The compensation boards meet annually to make salary recommendations for elected officials in their respective counties.
