(Des Moines) Drake University is currently facing budget constraints and is considering cutting some of its programs. The Faculty Senate recently voted on recommendations, and some undergraduate and graduate programs were narrowly saved from being cut. Notably, the Physics, Astronomy, and Rhetoric majors were preserved, but other programs like Religion and East Asian Studies minors are at risk of being discontinued. The Board of Trustees will make a final decision by the end of April. Many students are worried about how these cuts will affect their education and future prospects.
For the academic year 2022-2023, Drake University had a total of 4,685 students, with 2,835 undergraduates and 1,850 graduate students. Of these students, 3,584 were full-time and 1,101 were part-time, with a gender distribution of 1,752 males and 2,933 females. Drake University also offers an online degree program, and there are currently 431 students who have enrolled in this program exclusively.
