(Brooklyn, NY) – Former Iowa Hawkeye, Caitlin Clark, was selected as the number one pick in the WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever. Clark is the first Hawkeye to ever be selected as the number one pick in the WNBA Draft and the fourth to be drafted into the WNBA that includes Kathleen Doyle, Megan Gustafson, and Monika Czinano.
The West Des Moines native finished her career in college basketball as the all-time leading scorer in history with 3,951 points and is the first D-I basketball player to earn 1,000+ points in back-to-back seasons. Clark averaged 31.6 points and 8.9 assists per game, the top player in all of college basketball to lead the nation in back-to-back seasons.
Clark is the first player in program history to be named the Big Ten Player of the Year while also being named First Team All-Big Ten in all four years of her collegiate career.
Clark has won a number of awards this season including the Wooden Award, Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year, Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, Honda Sport Award, Wade Trophy, Associated Press National Player of the Year, Naismith National Player of the Year, USA Today National Player of the Year, ESPN.com National Player of the Year, The Athletic National Player of the Year, Sporting News National Player of the Year, AP, USBWA, USA Today First Team All-America, Big Ten Player of the Year, and First Team All-Big Ten.
The Iowa superstar will now be headed to the great state of Indiana to play for the Indiana Fever. While the Fever finished 13-27 last season, Clark will look to bring her skill from the collegiate game to the WNBA this season. We will not have to wait too long to see Clark suit up on the floor once again, as the Fever jump back out on the floor for their first game on May 14th against the Connecticut Sun.
