(Maryville, MO) – Northwest Missouri State has officially named Matt Keeley as their new Head Men’s Basketball Coach. The university will be hosting a press conference in the coming weeks to officially announce Keeley to the community.
Keeley formally served as the Head Coach at Ottawa University in Arizona for a total of seven seasons. Just this year, he was named the NCCAA Coach of the Year for leading the Spirit to three straight National Tournament appearances which includes a national runner-up back in 2021 while also earning a spot in the 2023 Fab Four. He also formally served as an assistant coach at MidAmeria Nazarene University and was a graduate assistant at MNU in 2004.
“I am so excited and equally honored to join the Northwest Missouri State program as the next men’s basketball coach,” Keeley said. “Being on campus you quickly realize that Northwest is a truly special place whose biggest asset is its amazing people. My family and I can’t wait to work alongside all the Bearcat family in the local community and beyond to continue the program’s success. Thank you to President Lance Tatum and Athletic Director Andy Peterson for allowing me the opportunity to carry on the tradition that is Northwest Missouri State basketball.”
While Keeley has a tenured career as a coach, he also had a well-tenured career as a basketball player at MNU. He formally played from 2000-04 and helped push the Pioneers to a National Tournament run in every season he played with the Pioneers. The Kansas native was elected to the MNU Athletics Hall of Fame back in 2014.
He and his family including his wife, Jana, and four children Cade, Reese, Cam, and Rylee.
