(Indianapolis, IN) – After announcing that he would enter the transfer portal a few weeks ago, Patrick McCaffery announced on Instagram that he will be transferring to Butler for the 2024-25 season.
The Iowa City native had a storied career while with the Hawkeyes both on and off the floor. He had major health issues that kept him sidelined multiple times throughout his career. McCaffery had a thyroid cancer diagnosis back in 2014 while medically redshirting in the 2019-20 season after multiple effects from the cancer. The former Hawkeye also sat out for a short stint in 2023 due to anxiety.
This move reflected back on his father, Fran McCaffery, whom many thought that the transfer was going to spark him from leaving the program altogether. However, that ended up not being the case as it is just his son who is looking for a new home which looks to be in the great state of Indiana.
McCaffery will be now by his brother, Connor McCaffery, who works for the Indianapolis Pacers and is dating soon-to-be Indiana resident, Caitlin Clark.
