(Los Angeles, CA) – Iowa’s Caitlin Clark has been named the Wooden Award National Player of the Year. It was awarded to the senior Hawkeye after a tremendous season on and off the court.
The Wooden Award Gala will take place this Friday, April 12th in Los Angeles to award both the Men’s and Women’s Award winners. Named finalists for the award were Cameron Brink (Stanford), JuJu Watkins (USC), Hannah Hidalgo (Notre Dame), and Paige Bueckers (UConn) as they’ve all been invited to Los Angeles for the presentation of the Wooden Award. Clark is the first-ever Iowa women’s basketball player to win the Wooden Award.
Clark finished her career at Iowa as the first player to finish leading in both points and assists for back-to-back seasons with 31.6 points and 8.9 assists per game. Clark owns a record-breaking 3,900+ points and was the first Division-I player to record 1,000+ points in back-to-back seasons. The West Des Moines, IA native is also the only player in NCAA basketball history to lead the conference in scoring and assists in four consecutive seasons.
The Iowa superstar has won a number of awards this season including, Wooden Award, Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year, Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, Honda Sport Award, Wade Trophy, Associated Press National Player of the Year, Naismith National Player of the Year, USA Today National Player of the Year, ESPN.com National Player of the Year, The Athletic National Player of the Year, Sporting News National Player of the Year, AP, USBWA, USA Today First Team All-America, Big Ten Player of the Year, and First Team All-Big Ten.
Clark will be alongside her teammates today at Carver-Hawkeye Arena to celebrate the team’s success. Fans can attend the event that starts later this evening at 6:00 p.m.
