(Ames, IA) – One of the many key pieces to the Iowa State postseason run, Tamin Lipsey has been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team. The award recognizes some of the top athletes in the country for their work both on the court and in the classroom.
To be recognized for the award, you must have a 3.5 GPA and play in at least 50% of the games in a season. Lipsey has a lot of awards and honors to put on his shelf after this season including a finalist for the Naismith National Defensive Player of the Year, the Lefty Driesell Defensive Player of the Year, and the Lute Olson National Player of the Year awards.
To top off all of this year’s honors, the sophomore also was named to the Big XII Championship All-Tournament team and an NABC First Team All-District selection. Lipsey has also been named to the All-Big XII First Team and All-Defensive Teams this season.
The Ames native is only one of 17 NCAA players since 1997 to average 12.5 points, 4.9 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.7 steals per game this season.
Iowa State is in the Sweet Sixteen for the second time in the last three seasons under Head Coach T.J. Otzelberger. They’ll face off against Illinois this Thursday, March 28th at 9:00 p.m.
