(Des Moines) State Climatologist Dr. Justin Glisan reported that last week, 66% of Iowa was affected by drought. However, this week’s data showed an improvement, with only 58% of the state still classified as in drought conditions.
Glisan has also mentioned that Iowa has experienced 199 consecutive weeks of drought, with 99% of the state being covered in drought at one point.
Additionally, the USDA crop progress report released earlier this week indicated that nearly two-thirds of the state’s topsoil had adequate or surplus soil moisture. However, this is still below moisture levels from one year ago.
