(Iowa City, IA) – While the 2023-24 season may be over for the Hawkeyes, the awards and recognitions keep coming. Out of those recognitions, Payton Sandfort has been named a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection.
The Waukee native has now been named a selection for the second straight season, earning a 3.5 GPA or higher, and started as a key player all season for Iowa. Sandfort just recently was named to Winter Academic All-Big Ten Honors and was part of the Dean’s List in 2023.
On the floor, Sandfort was just as productive leading the team with an average of 16.4 points per game while ranking second in rebounds with 6.6 per game. Sandfort also made history for Iowa, earning the first triple-double in the history of the men’s basketball program history against Penn State. The junior also led the Big Ten in three-point field goals with 94 and shot 37.9% from beyond the arc.
Iowa finished the season with a 19-15 overall record while going 10-10 in Big Ten action which tied for a sixth place finish.
